Before Booking Your Video Shoot:

-SONG PREPARATION: Have your material recorded, mixed and ready to go before getting an opinion on a concept. Small changes in tone or sound from additional mixing may trigger another idea for the video. So prepare your song just right so you will know with confidence that what you want to express will come through visually with the video.

-SET A GOAL: What message would you like to send to your audience? Even a simple music video can have a big impact on an artist's career. It also can be just a trophy on the shelf. The difference between the 2 is what goals were set prior to shooting. Maybe your goal is to get people to download your new mixtape and lock in your new booking number. Those 2 simple goals can be drilled into the blueprint of your video production to insure that your video doesn't just end up on the shelf.

-PEOPLE & LOCATION SCOUTING: The primary elements of most videos are the people and the setting around them. Before locking in on any particular idea, it's best to first consider what you already have at your disposal. Does your video require an inside living room acting scene? Consider the people you may know that wouldn't mind allowing you to use theirs for the video. Maybe there is a building or store you would like to use. Ask the manager if a video project would be ok with them. In most cases they only ask for an early notice and particular attention to their store branding. By having a set of options for locations and people in advance, the video treatment process will be even more effective.

After Booking & Before The Shoot:

-LEARN YOUR LINES/VERSES: The first video shoot should take place in private with a phone camera. The more comfortable you are with your lines and ad libs, the more natural your presentation will be. It's a difference experience being in front of a camera than it is being in front of people so a little camera prep at home or with friends is highly recommended. With just a little preparation beforehand the video shoot will be more likely to go smoother, more timely, and get the best shots possible.

-FINALIZE LOCATIONS: Once a concept has been established, refer of your list of location options and lock in the date.

-GATHER VOLUNTEERS: Some videos require more people than others. It's important to have people available for any specific need you may have for your video. It's important to lock in with people as early as possible after confirming your video date to give them enough time to make accommodations.
